Why Rugby?

Rugby is fun. It is a fast-paced full-contact sport, where every single member of the team can make a vital contribution.

Rugby’s rules are not watered down for girls. You tackle, run, push, and struggle just like the boys do.

Any rugby club will welcome every type of player and every skill level. There is a place for you.

There is plenty of opportunity to play at a high level. If you consider the recent performance of the East Region Ladies, Under 18s and Under 15s and take them together, we live in what is arguably the strongest part of the country.

So what can you achieve by playing?

1. Have fun.
It’s a game, and we like to enjoy playing this game.

2. Use rugby to develop yourself.
This sport teaches you a unique combination of teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-reliance.

2. Have fun. We love to party.

3. Learn an activity that will help you lead a healthy and active life.

4. Have fun.

5. Learn something about yourself and the game. Rugby players never stop improving and learning.

6. Have fun.

Or, to put it another way, this is how the International Rugby Board (the global governing body for Rugby Union) puts it in the Conclusion to the IRB Playing Charter:

” Rugby is valued as a sport for men and women, boys and girls. It builds teamwork, understanding, co-operation and respect for fellow athletes. Its cornerstones are as they always have been: the pleasure of participating; the courage and skill which the game demands; the love of a team sport that enriches the lives of all involved; and the lifelong friendships forged through a shared interest in the game. It is because of, not despite, Rugby′s intensely physical and athletic characteristics that such great camaraderie exists before and after matches.”
