Letchworth v Sudbury - Round 2
November 19th, 2006
Sunday 5th November saw Sudbury travelling to Letchworth for the sequel to the thrilling Rochford Final. The weather was much better - and the rugby was pretty hot as well.
A hard fought game of 12 a side saw Sudbury even up the honours. The Suffolk girls combined strong forward play and support with an ability to ship the ball wide. Letwchworth succumbed under the pressure, notching up 5 to Sudbury’s 15.
Two of Sudbury’s tries came from penalties close to the right-hand touchline, well within Letchworth’s 22. The first time, Sasha ‘Bam Bam’ Acheson crashed through in her trademark style. Within 5 minutes, a second penalty in the same part of the field saw Sudbury’s long-standing scrum half Suei ‘Chop’ Bolland look as if she was preparing to pass the ball short to Sasha once more. Instead, she shipped the ball wide, and the backs executed a flawless move, passing the ball all the way out to Jaymie Maxwell-Tingey on the left wing. When such a move is well done, very few defences of any level can keep the gaps closed, and Letchworth were no exception.
Jaymie also put away Sudbury’s third try.
Particular congratulations to Hannah Watson and Alex Marshall, who played their first ever full length match.
