Sudbury off to a Flying Start

October 20th, 2006

On 7th October Sudbury Girls got their season
off to a flying start as guests to Saracens
Girls at a Charity
fundraiser at Saracens’
North London ground.

The girls played a hard-fought Sevens game in brilliant sunshine, watched by a crowd of over a hundred. The experienced Sudbury team put Spare (Gemma Alderton) into space twice in the first few minutes, and it was not long before she scored. Saracens fought back hard, but in the end the girls from Suffolk won the curtainraiser by 17-14.

Sasha Acheson and Chop (Suei Bolland) scored the other tries, Lydia Dzioba brought in the other two points with a conversion.

The following day, the girls travelled to Beckenham for a 15-a-side festival. They combined with Beckenham in order to field a full team.

Sadly, that led to no prize-winning performances, but three fixtures on a sunny day made the trip worthwhile.
