World Cup Update
June 23rd, 2006
I’m talking about Edmonton, Canada, not Germany…….
The image is of England Ladies celebrating their Grand Slam win last season - the reason for including it here is to draw attention to our genuine chance of winning in September. New Zealand’s Black Ferns are tipped as being England’s most serious opposition.
The final trials for the England Squad are tomorrow - 45 girls are playing off for 26 places.
The squad of 26 players, which will be announced on Monday 3rd July, will then head into an intense three week training camp at Loughborough University and at the Commando Training Centre for Royal Marines in Lympstone, Devon in August, before heading off to Calgary for another week’s preparation.
The match schedule for the tournament is as follows:
Thurs 31st August England v USA, KO 5.30pm local time
Mon 4th September England v South Africa, KO 2.30pm local time
Fri 8th September England v France, KO 4pm local time
Tues 12th September Semi-finals
Sat 16th September Consolation Finals
Sun 17th September 17th Finals
We are seven hours ahead of Edmonton.
Last I heard, the RFUW were in negotiations with the IRB about TV rights - let’s hope there is some way we can get to watch some of this!
